Obituary

Willis Lyn Craig, Sr., of Lawrenceville, Ga., passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019. He was 87.

Lyn, a native of Holliday, Texas, served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. A mechanic who rose to the rank of master sergeant, he served at posts both domestically and internationally. Some of his duty stations included Hunter Army Air Field near Savannah, where he met his first wife, Mary Eva Craig (née Morse) in 1950 as well as Patrick Air Force Base and Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. He also served on Okinawa, Japan, Recife, Brazil, and in Vietnam.

Lyn retired from the USAF with an honorable discharge in 1969. After his active military service, he put his mechanical skills to work for Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Ga., and later at Sun Oil Co. in Alabama, and then at Corbin Gas Company in Jonesboro, Ga. until his retirement.

Lyn was a Mason and also involved in the Order of the Eastern Star as a Worthy Grand Patron. Post-retirement, he visited all 50 states and Canada with Mary. After Mary passed away in 2001, Lyn married Bonnie Keller Craig in 2002 with whom he had happy years until her death in 2017.

Lyn was preceded in death by Mary Eva Craig, his first wife, in 2001, second wife Bonnie Keller Craig, in 2017, and his first son, Willis Lyn Craig, Jr. in 2014; his father and mother Robert and Jane Craig; his brother Robert (Leon) Craig; his sister Teresa Krout; and brother Frank Craig.

He is survived by his sister Bettie Gilbert of Wichita Falls, Texas; son Alan and daughter-in-Law Melinda Craig, of Columbia, S.C., son Ernest and daughter-in-law Dale Craig, of Alpharetta, Ga., daughter Eva Wyatt, of Lawrenceville, Ga., six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of stepchildren and their kin from his second marriage to Bonnie.
